The Daily Routine

Posted By Tynan

Ok, I want to make sure that I post here frequently, but we haven’t been too much that’s exciting enough to write about.

The thing about just picking a day to leave on a huge trip like this is that it’s hard to be totally ready to go. Both of us had projects that we were hoping to complete before leaving, but didn’t quite finish. Never underestimate the difficulty of selling everything you own.

So now we work all day.

I don’t know when Todd wakes up, but it’s always before me. I wake up at about 11am and start working in the living room where Todd is already working. We have our front and back doors open so there’s a constant eighty something degree breeze flowing through the house.

At 3 or so we take a taxi down to La Mireya. Here’s a typical lunch:

Black bean soup with a piece of soy bread
Squash
Rice
Beans
Green Beans
Broccoli
Torreja de Maiz, which is sort of like a cornbread pancake
Plantain Temptacion

Then we go back home and work until 8 or 9. After that we go do our workout 4 or 5 days out of the week. We found this hilarious gym right around the corner. It’s only about three times the size of my RV, but it has enough weights and pull up / dip bars to keep us busy. It costs $2 per day.

If we don’t have to use weights for the workout of the day (on crossfit.com, we’ll have a whole article about this once we finish making some videos), then we just work out outside. There’s a playground we use for pullups and we’ve mapped out a 400m run in the parking lot.

Sometimes we have to run a 5k or something, so we use GPS watches to keep track of the distance.

After working out we take showers and work on our laptops some more. Finally we go eat dinner at Casa Vegetariana. That’s right… we found a casa here too.

Here’s a typical Casa dinner :

Squash
Lima beans
Lentils
Black Beans
Boiled Plantains
Sweet Potatoes
Fresh Squeezed OJ
Soup

Then after dinner Todd works until he sleeps at 2 or so and I stay up working until 4 or 5 usually.

This probably sounds boring to most people, but we’ve become total workaholics. Even when we plan on doing something different we usually change our minds and just keep working.

Oh, sometimes I take breaks to read too. I read Atlas Shrugged this week and have been chipping away at some marketing books too.

Luckily we’re both nearly done with our projects and now starting to work on marketing, so hopefully there will be more adventures to write about soon. Tomorrow we’re going to do karaoke and video it for you guys.

And… we have something VERY exciting and unusual coming up soon, but I don’t want to write about it until it’s a sure thing.

Stumble it!

What work do you guys do? It”d be interesting to find out in detail what work you do to sustain this lifestyle.

You guys should take really good photos of the food you eat! Food porn is always awesome. :)

  3. It’s good to know I’m not the only productive individual who wakes up at 11a.

  4. Congrats on taking the plunge! These sort of things make memories for life.

A recommendation for keeping in touch: qoop.com. They tie into Flickr so you can send postcards really easily & quickly.. Moms love that kind of stuff ;-)

  5. The more I read, the more I realize how interesting next week is going to be. =)

i’m so glad panama has a casa too! funny that you guys have the same routine there that you did here…

  7. What’d you think of Atlas Shrugged? I loved it.

  8. If you enjoyed Atlas Shrugged, I highly recommend “The First Man in Rome” and “Shogun” - but not if it means you skip an update! Totally inspiring!
