As you can clearly tell from the little asterisk on the itinerary on the right, Todd and I parted ways temporarily for a few days. His cousins were in Thailand so he headed up there by plane and seaplane from Singapore while I intended to take a train all the way there.

Things didn’t quite work out that way. I made a video on my phone (go e90!) as I went along, so you can watch me go from Singapore to Malaysia. The video quality gets better after the first three minutes - the phone doesn’t do so well in the dark.

I stopped videoing, but everything went pretty smoothly after that. One cool story:

I got on the ferry from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi where I was meeting Todd. The first two decks had people cramped into small seats slave ship style. The top deck was open to the air, but had a roof to block the sun. I sat down in an empty place along the railing and faced inwards.

It was more white people than I’d seen in a long time. Thailand really is a haven for backpackers.

Next to me were a guy and a girl, the male portion of which kept looking over at me.

“Hey… is your name… Tynan?”

“Yes.”

“Dude! I read your BLOG!”

Sure enough, thanks to my star spangled hat, I was spotted all the way on the other side of the world, on a boat to a tiny little remote island. He was really excited, but I was probably more so. When you’re not actually famous, getting recognized is a lot of fun.

I don’t know if I actually attract an audience that is mostly made up of cool people I’d actually hang out with or if those are the ones that I randomly meet, but Jeremy was a cool guy. We ended up hanging out a few times on Koh Phi Phi.

That island and the amazing experiences on it deserve their own post, which will be coming soon…
